L'io narrante principale, si affianca infatti advert un co-protagonista, un proprio amico i cui pensieri vengono esternati attraverso l. a. trasposizione, sulla dorsale narrativa preminente, di brani di un diario di costui. Il teatro dell'azione è l. a. Sicilia, Terra di origine dello scrittore, a cui egli è profondamente legato e nella descrizione dei cui paesaggi, luoghi e tradizioni, soprattutto nella prima parte del racconto, caratterizzata da ampie digressioni visive, riversa tutta l. a. propria carica emozionale mediante l'adozione di un linguaggio dettagliato mirato a materializzare nella mente del lettore i profumi i colori e le sensazioni che si sentono nel visitare quella Terra. l. a. storia principale, un viaggio dei due amici, raccontata dal primo narratore, si alterna, come sopra accennato, con il vissuto interiore personale del co-protagonista, anch'esso narrato in prima personality sotto forma di diario. I binari dei due livelli narrativi si incrociano in punti precisi del racconto, evidenziati e caratterizzati dalla scelta letteraria di indizi al lettore affinché possa operare quei collegamenti indispensabili a comprendere i reali contorni dell'intera storia sfiorandone, percependone il senso profondo e venendo in contatto con uno spiraglio dell'anima del suo autore, con le sue convinzioni e con il suo pensiero filosofico di vita. Questo pensiero rimanda al senso circolare dell'esistenza assai radicato nell'autore, ed è anche uno dei principi base intorno ai quali si sviluppa tutto il racconto.
